Exploring what Star data can tell you and how to use it
Using the Outcomes Star can provide organisations with a unique and valuable data set around meaningful outcomes for service users and their distance travelled towards end outcomes.
Looking at and analysing the innovative and holistic dataset collected by the Outcomes Star can be useful in a number of ways:
- Motivating for service users and for staff to see the change that has been achieved
- Demonstrating and evidencing the impact your services have to your wider stakeholders
- Learning about what is working well and what can be improved for the future
As part of Triangle’s commitment to help organisations get the most out of using the Star, we are continually investing in further developing our understanding around best practice for use of Star data. For an example of Star data in action, please see the recently published evaluation report from OPM Group for Essex County Council’s Early Help Programme, the Family Innovation Fund (FIF). FIF used the Family Star Plus and My Star as primary evaluation tools, with practitioners completing Stars in collaboration with service users, as an integrated part of the Early Help support being provided. Star data was used to demonstrate change, as part of an economic evaluation, and to make the case for early help provision.
