The Young Person’s Star has been designed for young people moving to independent living. It is suitable for young care leavers, those leaving young offender institutions and other young people experiencing homelessness or transition. It can be seen as a young person’s version of the Homelessness Outcomes Star.
The Young Person’s Star was initiated by 1625 Independent People in Bristol and piloted for over a year within their services and by Coram in London. Newham Borough Council collaborated in the final stage of the development to enable us to publish the finished product. Further testing was carried out by the Shelter Trust in Jersey.
The Young Person’s Star covers eight outcome areas that are key for young people moving into independent living:
- Accommodation
- Work and learning
- People and support
- Health
- How you feel
- Choices and behaviour
- Money and rent
- Practical life skills
Full resources are available for organisations with a Star Licence and training for all workers and managers using the Star.
