The Student Star has been designed for young people with additional needs in colleges or other supported work and learning environments. It is suitable for students with a range of needs, including autism, learning disabilities or behavioural needs.

The Student Star was developed by Triangle with Ruskin Mill Trust. It is based on the Spectrum Star for people on the autistic spectrum, which was developed by Triangle in collaboration with accomplish (formerly known as Brookdale Care).

The Student Star is a holistic tool covering nine outcome areas:

  1. Practical skills
  2. Communication and social skills
  3. Learning skills
  4. Physical health
  5. Living skills
  6. Friends and relationships
  7. Well-being
  8. Social responsibility
  9. Work readiness

The Student Star is underpinned by a five-stage Journey of Change:

  1. It’s not working
  2. Accepting support
  3. Stable
  4. Learning for yourself
  5. Choice and self-reliance

Full resources are available for organisations with a Star Licence and training for all workers and managers using the Star.
