The Outcomes Star for women who have experienced domestic violence

The Empowerment Star is suitable for use in women’s refuge or outreach services, where:

  • Domestic abuse is the main factor in women using the service
  • There is an ongoing support or relationship between a keyworker and the women using the service
  • The service is holistic and the aim of the service is to empower women to live a life free from abuse, independently of the service

The Empowerment Star was developed by Triangle in collaboration with Eaves Housing and funding from London Councils.

The Empowerment Star covers outcome areas that have been found to be critical in empowering women with experience of domestic abuse to build a new life:

  1. Safety
  2. Accommodation
  3. Support networks
  4. Legal issues
  5. Health and well-being
  6. Money
  7. Children
  8. Work and learning
  9. Empowerment and self-esteem

The underlying model of change underpinning the Empowerment Star is a Journey of Change with five steps:

  1. Not ready for help
  2. Accepting help
  3. Believing
  4. Learning and rebuilding
  5. Independence & choice

Full resources are available for organisations with a Star Licence and training for all workers and managers using the Star.
